![]() ![]() Yes - the NEW permissions are global forever to that directory - how do I get it back to the original behavior? - Which seems to be entirely file independent - not paying attention to the directory. I might be able to go 764 to get back to -rwx-rw-r- Or maybe 766 -rwx-rw-rw-? But if the answer to the previous question is. Let me confirm - if I set this directory to 777 = "-rwxrwxrwx" (rwx for all)ĪNYTHING I drop into that directory at any point in the future will get the same 777 permissions regardless of what it is before it's added? Thanks - so other than command line - there is no utility that can manage this? LOL At least the dictator is supposedly serving and protecting the people! ![]() But, anyone who went through the shock of moving from OS9 or earlier and going forward to OSX knows how it went from a free society to a dictatorship. I won't disagree - OSX is solid, superior and quite elegant. I can't tell you how terrifically superior ten is, you just have to get over the fact that you thought it was Even newly added items.ĮDIT: I've run on OS 6 - 9.2 but not for a while. Like if something is in - XXXX folder or XXXX drive it will always automatically be written as - RWX. A global "Permissions Central" would be nice. being locked down - it's my files constantly requiring babysitting that's driving me crazy. ![]() I guess I don't really mind the system, programs etc. I'm aware of the reasons for permissions and all the security issues, internet and otherwise - downloads, installs etc. OK, thanks - maybe I've overstated things out of frustration. Consider the consequences, consider the personal information you keep on it. You're just making your Mac and everything that has access to it an open book. It could lead to numerous vulnerabilities and exploits. But what you are about to do is very perilous. Is there any way - something to help - that just will automatically set everything to RWX forever? Even +Apply To Enclosed Items+ has to be done over and over again as I add, move or change files around. I don't want to have to hand change file permissions by going into Sharing and Permissions for everything I touch. so none can influence the other.īottom line - I want all permissions of all files and everything on my computer and all attached drives, local and network, to be completely open access - read - write - execute EVERYTHING always and forever. ![]() I understand that the underpinnings of OSX are to compartmentalize the system pieces, owners, applications etc. I've used OS9 and had full access to all the nooks and crannies - I'm not an idiot and won't break my computer with full permissions access to all files - and no one else touches it. Sometimes I'll create a new file of one type or another and the permission is unknowingly automatically set to RW owner and R only for everyone else. Local is RWX but network is RW.Chronosync sees that as a conflict. I'm constantly running into conflicts in my permissions - like from a synced copy of a local HDD to a network (Dockstar/Pogoplug) HDD. I work with a lot of media files, attached storage, and network drives and do a lot of syncing with Chronosync as well as other file management things like Dropbox, Chipmunk and more. ![]()
